Industry Innovation Project 2027: Expression of Interest Form

Thank you for your interest in the Industry Innovation Project (IIP) with Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation (BCII) students.

EOI submissions are now open.

The deadline for EOI submissions is Friday, 27th November 2026.

Please submit your complex societal challenge to be worked on by two (2) BCII student teams using this form. Each project requires one Project Lead and one Executive Sponsor.

Please note - Due to the popularity of IIP, we often receive a high volume of submissions. If this occurs we may close submissions early to limit over-subscription. We recommend submitting your EOI as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Each field of the EOI is important, please be sure to address each question. The final intended audience for this form is the BCII students undertaking IIP in 2027, who will review the challenge details and vote for their top project preferences. Organisation information and project details provided in this form will be shared with students during the IIP project voting process; contact information submitted is not shared with the students prior to project allocation.

Important areas for consideration

To participate in IIP, organisations need to nominate a main point of contact (Project Lead) and an executive sponsor for each project as this improves the strategic input, alignment and impact of outcomes.

We ask about your position regarding Intellectual Property (IP) so students can make informed choices when voting for projects. We advocate that partners, where possible, allow students to retain any NEW IP generated through the project. Some students prefer to work with organisations who do this, and some notable and sizeable partners have done this with fantastic outcomes.

After you submit your EOI

Your brief will be assessed against Transdisciplinary (TD) School criteria before being shared with students for voting at the end of January. We’ll confirm if your project has been selected to proceed in February 2027, at which point we will share an agreement to formalise your involvement in the subject.

IIP starts for industry partners on Thursday 4th March 2027 with a partner briefing. Partner engagement for this subject will be a mix of online and face-to-face. Please note, the 'Meet the Teams' Event on Monday 8th March 2027, where partners and student teams first meet, must be attended in person on campus by the Project Lead (or a representative of the partner org).

If you’d like to get in touch or change anything in your EOI before December 5th, please contact  TDSchoolPartnerships@uts.edu.au

Thank you,

Transdisciplinary School Industry Partnerships Team

Intellectual Property and NDAs

In accordance with UTS Intellectual Property Policy students own the Intellectual Property (IP) rights in the work they create through their studies, coursework and research during their degrees, unless a specific agreement to the contrary has been signed by them. This includes the IP in the report(s) they create.

If the organisation requires a non-disclosure (NDA) or confidentiality agreement to be entered into with the student/s, please provide a copy of the proposed agreement to TD School Partnerships team prior to the commencement of the subject to be shared with students. Please note UTS is not party to NDA or IP Agreements with partners. These agreements should be drawn up directly between partners and students.

By joining IIP as an industry partner in this subject, the organisation agrees (at a minimum) to acknowledge by name the student/s for their work if they decide to implement or display the ideas or information in any form, and we encourage discussion and agreement with students around such matters before the project commences.

If UTS staff and contractors received information from industry partners, they must keep this information confidential in accordance with the agreement between UTS and the industry partner for the subject, and their employment agreement with UTS.

Working With Vulnerable Groups

When we refer to individuals from a 'vulnerable background or group' (Risk A according to UTS human research ethics policy), we include pregnant women and the human foetus, children, people in dependent or unequal relationships, those highly dependent on medical care, individuals with cognitive impairments, intellectual, visible and invisible disabilities, or mental illnesses, people involved in or affected by illegal activities, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. These groups require special ethical considerations due to their heightened risk of harm or exploitation.

Students may engage with these stakeholders as part of their innovation project with your organisation - but only under the direct supervision of the industry partner, serving as observers rather than active researchers, to ensure ethical integrity and participant protection.

Please list if there are any other paperwork requirements that you will ask students to complete if they are assigned to your project? Please include information here to help students make informed decisions about requirements to undertake your project, e.g. Police Check, Working with Children Check (WWCC), Working with Vulnerable People Check (WWVP).
